What Is The Main Theme Of Surah Nas? | Quran oasis
What Is The Main Theme Of Surah Nas? Surah Nas( Arabic: سورة الناس ), is the last surah in the Holy Quran and its number is 114. Al naas surah is one of the surahs that talks about the attributes of Allah Almighty.
He is the king and lord for everything, Allah has power over everything and we must believe in his power and there is no true worship without him.
Surah Al Nas taught us that the only refuge to be protected from the main center of evil Satan ( Iblees ) and his devilish helper, is Allah.
We must call Allah to protect us from Satan’s clutches as his evil is unpredictable and we can’t see him so he can whisper to us to do bad things and Allah is the real refuge for us from him.
Naas surah is very important in Muslims’ life, it describes Mankind’s relationship with Allah, he is our Rabb.
Satan can whisper into our hearts and make us deviate from the right path, but Allah alone can protect us from his evil and whispers through the day, whether physical or spiritual.
Surah is a symbol of peace in the daily lives of Muslims.
Abdullah ibn Khubayb reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said, “Speak.” I said, “What should I say?” The Prophet said, “Say: He is Allah, the One, (112:1) and the two chapters of refuge, al-Falaq, and al-Nas, every evening and morning three times. They will be enough for you against everything.” Sunan al-Tirmidhī.
What does Surah Nas mean?
Surah nass ( Arabic: سوره ناس ) is the last Surah in the Holy Quran and has six verses ( Ayat) in Surah. Its revelation order is 21 and in Juza’ 30. Nass is titled in English “ Mankind “.
Sura naas where Allah directed his speech to prophet Muhammad said that mankind seeks the protection of the lord of humans.
Sovereign of humans who is always there for mankind to seek refuge.
Allah of humans which means the only Rabb for mankind who people should turn to him.
Allah only has the power to protect us from Satan’s whispers, who whisper in the hearts of mankind to mislead us without seeing him and disappear when one joins Allah.
Evil whispers maybe from men as well as from jinn.

where was surah al nas revealed?
Surah al nas was revealed in Mecca at night but some other opinions said that it was revealed in Madina on the 7th of Haijra.
According to Sayyiduna Hasan Basri, ‘Ikrimah, ‘Ata’ and Jabir bin Zaid, they said this Surah was revealed in Makkah.
Ibn S’ad, Imam Baihaqi, ‘Abd bin Humaid and others are of the opinion that these Surahs were revealed in the 7th of Haijra .
Surah Nas was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) at a time when His health was affected and he “ started imagining that he had done a thing he hadn’t really done” narrated Aisha ( may Allah be blessed with her ) But the Holy Prophet’s position as a Prophet remained wholly unaffected by it.
Only in his personal life, by black magic which was done by Jew called Labeed.
Labeed did the magic by a comb and the hairs stuck to it and the skin of pollen of male date palm in the well of Dharwaan. The Prophet became very sick.
one day when he was in Aishah’s house, he prayed to Allah to be restored to full health. In the meantime, he fell asleep or drowsed, and on waking he said to Aishah: “My Lord has told me what I had asked of Him.”
Aishah (may Allah bless her ) asked what it was. He replied: “Two men (i.e. two angels in human guise) came to me. One sat near my head and the other near my feet. The first asked: what has happened to him? The other replied: Magic has been working on him.
The first asked: who has worked it? He replied: Labid bin Asam. He asked: In what is it contained? He replied: In the comb and hair covered in the spathe of a male date tree. He asked: where is it? He replied: under a stone at the bottom of Dhi Arwan (or Dharwan), the well of Bani Zurayq.
He asked: what should be done about it? He replied: the well should be emptied and it should be taken out from under the stone.
The Holy Prophet then sent Ali, Ammar bin Yasir, and Zubair: They were also joined by Jubair bin Iyas az-Zurqi (two men from Bani Zurayq).
Later, Prophet Muhammad also arrived at the well along with some Companions.
The water was taken out and the spathe recovered.
There they found that besides the comb and hair there was a cord with eleven knots on it and a wax image with needles pricked into it.
Gabriel (peace be on him) came and told him to repeat the Mu’awwidhatayn ( surah al nas and surah al falaq )
As he repeated verse after verse, a knife was loosened and a needle taken out every time, till on finishing the last words all the knots were loosened and all the needles removed, and he was entirely freed from the charm.
when the Jews had worked magic on the Prophet (upon whom be peace) in Madinah and he had fallen ill under its effect.
The subject matter of these Surahs is explicit that they were sent down at Makkah when, for the first time, opposition to the Prophet had grown very intense.
Later, when at Madinah storms of opposition were raised by the hypocrites, Jews, and polytheists, Gabriel came and instructed him by Allah’s command to recite these very Surah.
Therefore, the view held by the commentators who describe both these Surah as Makki is more reliable.
when was surah Nas revealed?
Surah Nas was revealed in Mecca when opposition to the Prophet there had grown against him.
Abu Sa’id reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, would seek refuge from jinn and the evil eye of man, until the two chapters of refuge were revealed, al-Falaq and al-Nas. After they were revealed, he held to both of them and left everything else. “ Sunan al-Tirmidhi”
Later, at Madinah when storms of opposition were raised by Jews and polytheists, Prophet Muhammad was instructed Surah al Nas as mentioned before in Uqbah ibn Amir Hadith.
mam Muslim recorded on the authority of Uqbah ibn Amir that Allah’s Messenger (PBUM) said :
“ Do you not see that there have been verses revealed to me tonight the like of which has never been seen before.
They are :
( Say: I seek refuge with the Rabb of the daybreak “ Surat Al- Falaq “, and say: I seek refuge with the Rabb of mankind “ Surat Al- Nas ) “ Muslim”
Why was surah Nas revealed?
surah naas was revealed because of increasing opposition and magic against prophet Muhammad at Makkah from the disbelieving Qureysh who wanted to kill him to prevent spreading his message between people.
They began to hold secret consultations to kill him quietly in the darkness of the night so that the Bani Hashim could not discover the murderer and take revenge; magic and charms were being worked on him so as to cause his death, make him fall ill, or become mad; Satan from the men and jinn spread everywhere to whisper one or another evil into the hearts of the people against him and the Qur’an he brought, to incite suspicion and cause him to flee.
So many people were burning with jealousy, for they could not tolerate it that a man from a different family or clan should flourish and become prominent.
So the Prophet Muhammad ( peace and blessings be upon him ) was commanded to tell the people: “I seek refuge with the Rabb of the dawn, from the evil of everything that He has created, and from the evil of the darkness of night and from the evil of magicians, men, and women, and from the evil of the envious”, and to tell them: “I seek refuge with the Rabb of mankind, the King of mankind, and the Deity of mankind, from the evil of the whisperer, who returns over and over again, who whispers (evil) into the hearts of men, whether he be from among the jinn or mankind.”
When did the prophet recite surah al Nas?
The Prophet urged Muslims to recite these two Surahs as often as possible.
Prophet Muhammad recites al Naas surah in different situations:
- Prophet Muhammad recites sura naas every day before laying down for sleep.
Aisha reported: When the Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, would lie down for sleep, he would blow into his hands, recite the two chapters of refuge, al-Falaq and al-Nas, and he would wipe his hands over his body. “Sahih al-Bukhari”
- Prophet Muhammad recite surah nass and surah falaq at the end of every prayer
‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, commanded me to recite the two chapters of refuge, al-Falaq, and al-Nas, at the end of every prayer. Sunan al-Tirmidhi.
- Prophet Muhammad surah al Nas recitation when he became ill.
Aisha (RA) narrated that whenever Allah’s Apostle became sick, he would recite Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas and then blow his breath over his body. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Surahs) and rub his hands over his body for its blessings. “Saheeh Al-Bukhari”
What does surah Naas protect you from?
There are many things that surah Naas protects us from, as Allah and our Prophet Muhammad taught us as follows:
- surah naas will protect us from Jinn or Magic and the evil works of Devils. It will protect us from jealousy and hatred.
- When anyone speaks ill about you, when you are feeling sad or unable to concentrate on your Salaah, then you must recite Suratul naas and suratul
- Suratul nas warns us against the secret whispers of evil inside our hearts and warns us also against the evil that may come from other men or invisible spirits.
- As long as we put ourselves in Allah’s protection and we should trust in Allah, so evil will not be able to affect us.
Is surah naas makki or madani?
There are different opinions relating to the period and place of Surah Naas’s revelation.
surah al Nas Makki is more reliable as we mentioned before.
Benefits of surah naas
Now, after knowing everything about al Naas surah we can conclude the benefits of surah Naas:
-
Al naas surah protects us from satan’s whispers
Satan’s whispers in the form of negative or evil information, ideas, and feelings that penetrate a person’s heart and mind which may cause you to deviate from the right path and are caused by Satan and outside sources (jinns and humans).
If we don’t replace those bad thoughts with good thoughts, unwanted events will happen.
If we are not conscious and alert, Satan can catch our minds with negative, evil, unproductive, and anti-life thoughts.
If we are not protected through the remembrance of Allah, these negative whispers can become our long-term permanent memory and we see a negative shift in our habits, routines, and outcomes.
By constantly practicing Surah Nas, one can restrict Satan’s ability to corrupt the mind.
-
Protect us from black magic
Evil people use black magic as a tool to destroy victim’s life
-
Protect from evil eye and evil jinns
Evil eyes and evil may destroy our life and have more dangerous effects than we imagine.
They may affect our health and our mind.
They may cause bad events like loss of human health, losing your business, relationship failures like marriage and family issues, and countless other problems.
Abu Said Al Khudri (RA) reported: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek protection against the evil of jinn and the evil eyes till Surah Al Falaq and Surah An Nas were revealed. After they were revealed, he took them to seek Allah’s protection and left everything besides them.”
So we should read suratul nas in our daily routine to protect us.
-
Protect us from a jealous person
Jealousy may be raised from Satan’s whispers and not only harm the victim but also harm the person who becomes jealous so we should stay away from jealousy.
